Building Friendships and Reducing Isolation

At Githens Center, we believe reducing isolation is equally important to overall well-being.

Building friendships is one of the most powerful-and often overlooked-benefits of adult day programs for individuals with special needs. For many adults, especially after aging out of school-based services, opportunities for regular social interaction can become limited.

Githens Center creates a consistent, welcoming environment where participants can connect with peers, share experiences and form meaningful relationships. Whether it’s working together on a project, enjoying a group outing, or simply sitting and talking during lunch, these everyday moments lay the foundation for genuine friendships that bring joy, confidence and a sense of belonging.

At Githens Center, we believe reducing isolation is equally important to overall well-being. Without structured programs and community engagement, many people with special needs risk spending long periods alone, which can lead to loneliness, anxiety and a decline in both mental and physical health.

Githens Center helps bridge that gap by fostering inclusion, encouraging participation and creating a sense of purpose each day. In doing so, we don’t just fill time—we enrich lives, helping people with special needs feel seen, valued and connected to the world around them.
