Lowe’s Hometowns Project Makes a Meaningful Impact at Githens Center
Githens Center’s new gazebo…furnished with a round dining table and new chairs.
This past November, a team of Lowe’s associates arrived at Githens Center, rolled up their sleeves and began digging in to make an immeasurable impact in our community!
Juan Cintron, Store Manager of Lowe’s Home Improvement in Deptford, NJ, recalled working on a project at Githens Center nearly a decade earlier. Remembering that experience—and now being in a position to help make a difference—he chose Githens Center for a grant as part of Lowe’s Hometowns Project.
So, Juan assembled a team of volunteers from a number of Lowes store locations and departments. With warm hearts on a cold day, this small but mighty team rolled up their sleeves and began work to build a new hardtop gazebo and new picnic tables for Githens Center consumers to sit and enjoy each other’s company. The gazebo was furnished with a round dining table and new chairs.
The team wasn’t finished there...they then freshened up the playground area, pressure-washed pavers and walkways and cut down tree limbs for future safety. They also painted park benches a beautiful Lowe’s Blue to match the new rakes, shovels and wheelbarrow.
To finish the day’s work, the team undertook some landscaping, and showcased it with crafts and painted rocks created by Githens Center consumers.

Said Juan about the project, “I wanted to make sure we stay true to ourselves and help those who help others. I am truly grateful for the opportunity the Lowe’s Hometowns Project provides which allows us to truly dig into our communities and give a helping hand without being asked.”
With smiles on their faces and having finished what they set out to do, the Lowes team took some time to chat with Githens Center consumers and staff, and then headed back home.
We here at Githens Center are extremely grateful to the volunteers and the Lowe’s Hometowns Project that made this all possible!
